Tips for a Successful Concrete Pour

Compact and level the subgrade first
A soft or uneven base is the number one cause of cracked slabs. Compact the soil, add 2-4 inches of gravel base, and level it before pouring.
Build sturdy formwork
Use straight 2x4 lumber staked every 2-3 ft. Formwork that bows under the weight of wet concrete throws off your dimensions and wastes material.
Add control joints
