Stacked discounts multiply, they don't add. Two 20% discounts do not equal 40% off โ they equal 36% off, because the second discount applies to the already-reduced price (see Example 3 above). Sales tax is usually calculated after the discount, not before, so your final total at checkout will be a little higher than the number this calculator shows. Watch for "up to X% off" wording โ it often means only a few items in the sale actually reach that top discount. And compare unit price, not just percentage: a 50%-off item that was inflated before the sale can still be a worse deal than a smaller discount on a fairly priced item.
